OMFG PARALLEL
NOICE
YES FINALLY SOMEONE GIFFED IT. There’s a million parallels in HTTYD, and a lot of them show how much Hiccup and Stoick are alike. This moment, so small, but so much meaning. Each under the fierce, killing will of Toothless — first out of anger to Hiccup and next, out of love for the boy. The wildness of Toothless, first to protect and avenge himself, and next to protect and defend his boy, the irony being that the second time it’s Hiccup’s own father Toothless is attacking.
An interesting note is that towards Hiccup, Toothless wasn’t actually going to kill him. You don’t see the green gas in Toothless’ throat in the first scene, but in the second against Stoick, you can. Toothless wanted to give a warning against the boy who both captured and freed him. But Hiccup telling Toothless “no” literally saved his father’s life.
Who knows if they’re intentional or it’s just a coincidence.
In animation most things are very much planned. Some things might be coincidental, but the father/son relationship was a huge deal of the movie, in fact it was the foundational theme of HTTYD. And there’s many places where we do see them parallel one another’s motions, like in the breast hat scene, the fact of both of them saying “just listen to (my orders)” or something like that (to Hic by Stoick, then Hic to the kids). Both of them having “crazy” plans (“doing something crazy” Gobber said of Stoick, Hiccup himself saying his plan was “crazy”).
HTTYD has a lot of thought, unlike other shows I’ve seen, so I can trust that a lot of details like this can be intentional. Maybe not as pointedly intentional as the leg scene/Toothless’ tail frame at the end, but parallels nonetheless. Even the Isaac scene itself (when Hiccup and Toothless first met) is wrought with parallels, of Toothless’ head/eye motion vs Hiccup’s head/eye motion when both of them were pinned by the other. That’s what makes HTTYD SO RICH with visual meaning.

Hiccup
OH NO HE’S HOT.
I’M SORRY BUT THIS IS ALL THAT I CAN BLOG ABOUT RIGHT NOW
WELL DONE PUBERTY
I don’t know how they do it but dreamworks got him so spot on…
He’s older, taller, and handsome but dang he still looks like Hiccup.
I was kinda worried after I saw those leaked images, because I didn’t think he looked that much like his younger self, but seeing him move makes me so incredibly certain that yes, it’s Hiccup, he’s our Hiccup, and he can never really leave behind the little kid he was when he started his journey.
Also can we acknowledge the subtle yet amazing difference in the quality of animation since the 2010 film? This is incredible, and the flight sequence looked absolutely brilliant.
Aaaah I can’t wait to see and hear more about this film!
Yes!! The animation of flight is incredible. Hiccup had all these Iron Man feels to him , but the animation was SO GOOD

ok you’re definitely gonna have to click to enlarge this sucker right here. this is my big four/adventure time crossover and here’s the story of how i ruined my life making this. i made the foreground then decided to have an actual background (this is my first ever digital lanscape wow impressive) so i put it in after but like you can tell it doesn’t feel good but anyway, adventure time and big four my favourite things.
I ship Jack and Marceline now … okay
